France
This week we will be travelling to France. The home of the famous Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. Follow the tasks below in the order they appear.
- You each have $5000 (Australian) for your trip to France.
Task 1 - Getting There
Airfares
Go to the following wesbites and do a search for the cheapest fight to Paris (capital of France). Buy a one way ticket and you can travel as a child. You will be leaving Melbourne on the following date, Saturday 15th March . Remember you will be travelling from Melbourne.
Deduct the cost of this flight from your $5000. Show the working out in your book under the heading Task 1 - Getting There. Write down the flight number and the airline that you will travelling with. Put the amount of money you have left on your Tally Sheet.
Answer the following question before you board your flight for Paris
- Use an Atlas to find out how many kilometres it is from Melbourne to Paris
Currency Conversion
Convert the money you now have left to Euros. Go to the following website to help you do this. Remember to fill in the the Conversion section of your Tally Sheet. Currency Converter
Accomodation
Once you are there you will have to have somewhere to stay. You will be arriving in Paris on the 15th March and will be leaving on the 21st March . Look up the following hotels to find a nice place to stay. Remember to look up only the nights you are staying. Paris Hotels. Deduct the price of the hotel from what you have left. Remeber that you are now working with Euros. Show your working out and fill in your Tally Sheet. You will need to have some money left for the rest of your trip, so dont stay somewhere too expensive.
Task 2 - Tourist Attractions
Okay, you have organised your flight and accomodation, well done. You are now going to visit some famous tourist attractions and complete a series of activities. Paris is famous for some of the most beautiful and unique tourist attractions in the world.
The Eiffel Tower
Go to the following website to visit the Eiffel Tower. You will need to pay the entrance fee and dont forget that you will be going to the top floor. Show your working out and fill in your Tally Sheet. While you are there try to answer the following questions:
- How old is the Eiffel Tower?
- How tall is it in metres?
- How long did it take to build?

The Louvre
Now you are off to The Louvre. This is a very famous Art Museum in France. Pay the Admission Fees, show your working out and fill in your Tally Sheet. Now take a tour of the Museum. Use the information on Wikipedia to answer the following questions.
- Name 3 famous art works at The Louvre.
- How many visitors did the museum have in 2006?

Toue de France
The Tour de France is the world's biggest cycling race. It is a 22-day, 20-stage road race that is usually run over more than 3000km. It is a circuit of most areas around France and, sometimes, neighbouring countries. The race is broken into stages from one town to another, each of which is an individual race.

- Play the Time Trial game. As a group add up your total times and then find the average (divide by 4). Check your groups average time against the times below.

- Between 48 and 50 seconds is a $50 bonus.

Disneyland
Yes, there is a Disneyland in Paris. It is celebrating its 15 year anniversary. Unfortunately you will have to pay for entry as well as each ride that you go on. The Entry fee is 35 Euros. You must then go on at least 2 of the rides below. You can go on more if you wish and all your team members must go on the same rides. Click on each ride to watch a video of that ride.

You are now going to fill in a blank map of Disneyland. Follow the instructions below to complete your map.
- Your map has a scale, 1cm = 10 metres
- It must have a title.
- It must contain the following...
- Directional Compass.
- All of the following rides:
- Thunder Mountain - 120 square metres in area and located in the NW area of map.
- Space Mountain - 110 square metres in area and located in the NE area of map.
- Buzz Light Year Laser Blast - 90 square metres in area and located in the SE area of map.
- Rock n Roller Coaster - 180 square metres in area and located in the SW area of map.
- 4 Toilets - Each is 10 square metres in area and located in N, S, E, W sections of map.
- 2 Restaurants - Each is 30 square metres in area and located in the SE and NW areas of your map.
- It must contain a Key with the following...
- Rides must be in different colours and identified on your key
- 4 toilets that must contain a symbol that can be identified on your key.
- 2 restaurants that must contain a symbol that can be identified on your key.

Congratulations! You have now finished your tour of France. You will all be flying to New York in the USA. Dont book a flight just yet. (Remember that all the dates used on this website are made up dates. You teacher will tell you the actual date when France needs to be finished.
